How to optimise website

Do you know what is optimizing a website and what is the need for doing so?

Is there another way to get the work accomplished without optimizing the website?

So, for your first query, my reply would be that Website Optimization is the process of optimizing or in simple terms, making some changes in your website in order to rank it higher in SERPs to recoup more traffic and a decent online presence.

For your second query, my reply would be a straight NO!

Website Optimization is by-far, the best-known strategy of achieving all that you want to achieve from your website like traffic, profit, etc.

So, now it must be evident to you why website optimization is so encouraged and having a sounding knowledge of the same is commended. So, to cut down your efforts, in today’s article, I will have a thorough discussion of the entire concept of how to optimize a website and some useful strategies!

Therefore, without further ado, let’s get started!

Top 9 Strategies for Effective Website Optimization in 2019

With me having discussed the true meaning of this term at the beginning itself, the following 9 strategies have been trusted by millions and also, many of these strategies have been able to increase the income of website owners from $0 to $100+ in no time!

So, sincerely follow these and just admire the subsequent results!

1. Make your Site Mobile Optimized

According to the stats released by Google, 52.2% website traffic was solely generated from mobile phones, up from 50.2% in 2017.

So, this proves why making your site mobile-optimized is vital. Below are some ways of optimizing your website, even though, you’re a newbie!

How to optimise a website
  • Those using WordPress should use a highly-responsive theme and plugins.
  • Make sure your site is not only adaptive to mobile but also to desktop and tablets, mac, etc.
  • Since the reading area available on a standard phone is small, therefore, keeping the meta titles short is proposed.
  • Any sort of advertising pop-up(s) prevents the reader from having a glimpse of the content of the site. So, keep them minimal!
  • For reading devices like tablet, mobile phones, long-form content is not directly related to more traffic and more profit.
  • Always ensure your website content (including the images) appears the same on both, desktop and mobile phones.
  • Guarantee that the site takes no more than 2-5 seconds to load on a mobile phone. Not doing so can have a hit on your conversion rate!

So, these were my personal picks for making a website mobile-friendly!

2. Invest your time to do some SEO

Everyday, many of you keep asking me what is SEO in general and if I am a beginner, is it worth to invest time In mastering it?

See, SEO is an acronym for Search Engine Optimization! And, as a beginner, it’s not MANDATORY to master it!

You can use WordPress’s built-in SEO tools that will do wonders for you. The BEST being ,Yoast SEO. No SEO tool has never matched the brilliance of Yoast SEO.

There are though, other tools widely used available on the WordPress you can try, but, the key is how you interpret the data provided by these tools for website optimization. Some key things you need to know are:

  • Keep an eye on the fact that these SEO tools can also detect your site mobile-friendliness. So, assure that your site passes that test!
  • Check your status code errors (if any) and rectify them.
  • Check the robot.txt file for errors and eradicate them. A robot.txt is basically a text file that is placed at the top directory of your website and the sole purpose of this file is to instruct the search engine spider/crawler how to crawl and index the website pages. It can easily be checked via Google’s Robot Texting Tool.
  • Remove the duplicate meta tags and descriptions for the authenticity of your site.
  • Regularly run your site audit via WordPress site audit tools. An audit can provide necessary information about site traffic, which content is more engaging and which isn’t. So, in that way, you can direct some integral changes.
  • Lastly, make sure your site doesn’t have any broken links. It can have a serious impact on the reader’s experience on your site and ultimately on your site’s ranking on SERPs.

So, this all is what you can infer from WordPress’s SEO tools.

How to secure a Website?

Website security is an important issue that can’t be left behind at any point time be it for a website related to a small business or a bigger one.

3. Increase your Website Loading Speed

How many of you scorn sites that load very slow and every time, you just censure your internet connection for that?

So, from now onwards, keep in mind that site loading speed has nothing to do with your internet speed. Even a 50 MB/s internet connection can’t help a site to load faster.

A slow-loading page gives the user a poor experience and thus lowers down the conversion rates.

According to Google’s report, 53% of the mobile web users confront websites whose loading time exceeds 3 seconds while the fair time to entirely load a website landing page is 22 seconds, to be precise!

Therefore, always take your site loading speed into consideration if you yearn to rank better on search engines. Some tested ways of optimizing the site loading speed are:

  • Choose an appropriate hosting company. My preference from the starting has been the BlueHost or Siteground.
  • Always compress the images, videos, and graphics for quicker loading.
  • Make sure CSS and JS (JavaScript) load simultaneously.
  • Improve your server response time.
  • Remove all the unnecessary themes and plugins or install only the preferred ones.
  • Keep redirects to the minimum.
  • Leverage browser caching

These are some ways of website speed optimization and has been trusted worldwide.

4. Use your Keywords Liberally

We all know what is a keyword, keyword research, and all, as I have been throwing light over these from the very beginning.

A keyword-rich content helps the web spiders/crawlers in indexing your website on the SERPs. Generous is the keyword usage throughout the content, higher are the chances of attaining the top rank.

Here, the term generous doesn’t mean that you spam your content with keywords. Use the primary keyword a maximum of 3-4 times ( solely depending on your content size). Also, following the below tips & tricks will definitely help in the placement of keywords.

  • Use keywords in the title, header, and meta tags.
  • Use keywords in the anchor texts (clickable texts).
  • Use keywords the URL to new pages.

Note: Make sure wherever you are placing the keyword, the keyword should make sense.

5. Focus on the User Experience

It’s rightly said that the better experience your website provides to the users, the better will be the results. User experience best practices largely focus on improving the quality of the user experience.

A good user experience leaves the user satisfied and compel them to visit again and again while a bad experience may induce them to never return to your site again. Some of the common factors that influence the user experience are:

So, these were the common factors that can enhance the user experience on your website.

6. Use CTAs in your Content

CTA stands for‘Call To Action’. It is basically a short paragraph that encourages the reader to take action by either clicking an internal link, enrolling for your services, etc.

Providing a CTA is a common way of making people spend some extra time on your website. Therefore, always make sure to include some CTAs in your content and provide only the internal links in your content to make people stay for longer!

7. Produce Long and Value-Rich Content

According to Google, the ideal blog post length ranges from 1,600 to 2,000 words. Though, this is just the beginning point and depends on the topic of the blog.

On Google only, there are 74% of blogs that have 3 minutes of reading time and 94% posts have 6 minutes reading time. So, your article’s reading time also comes into play when you are deciding about the word count.

So, in order to choose the final word count for the post, Google your keyword and analyze the top-ranked results on SERPs. If you’re able to find some posts near to your preferred word count, you’re good to go with that word count.

Note: It’s important to note here, that the length of your article has nothing much to do with your success. It just informs Google bot that you’re providing more useful information and if that information is useful, it will compel readers to read till the end and hence, people will be spending more time on your blog.

We all know what’s backlinking and how useful it is for one’s growth in the industry. A backlink is a link to your website from some other renowned sites that have a much higher ranking than yours. And therefore, getting a link from them to yours underlines your site’s credibility.

Also, getting a successful backlink is not a piece of cake for anyone but with some dedicated efforts, one can surely earn some!

Build some contacts with top-ranked influencers, email them your articles, point them to the page where you will share their content, and all. All this will make them believe in your credibility and this may/will earn your site a higher search engine ranking.

9. Optimize for On-Page and Off-Page SEO

On-Page SEO and Off-Page SEO aren’t any new terms in today’s world of Search Engine Optimization. On-Page SEO basically deals with the optimization of the page’s headline, sub-headlines, meta tags, and meta description.

The fundamental rule of this type of optimization states that use your primary keyword at least once in your headline (at the beginning as much as possible), in the sub-headlines, in the meta tags and descriptions as well. Also, make sure that the prescribed percentage of the primary keyword is 0.5 to 2.5 % per 1600-2000 words. So, don’t over-stuff your keyword(s) in any way.

Off-Page Optimization or Off-Site Optimization as it’s commonly termed deals with website optimization via external means like influencer marketing, guest blogging, backlinking, etc.

Now, these 9 strategies are enough for doing wonders for you. Adhering to these strategies will definitely help you in developing your online presence and thus, your site’s brand value.

My Evergreen Website Optimization Tool

You must have heard of some website optimization tools like Google Search Console, Crazy Egg, Moz, Ahrefs, GTMetrix, Screaming Frog, Ubersuggest, UserTesting, etc. But one tool that stands apart from these is Yoast SEO and is my all-time favorite.

This is because Yoast SEO makes sure that you’re covering all the SEO basics every time you publish a new blog post on your website. It’s a WordPress plugin in simple terms. Just install it, activate it on your website, and you will get immediate access to all its features. Yoast SEO gives you an in-depth analysis of your website as shown below.

Final Words

So, finding the most appropriate keyword is to be your first priority before anything else. Then, developing useful and reliable content from that keyword is proposed along with proper interlinking so that Google can easily find your content.

Regularly revising and updating your web page loading time can do wonders. Since 52.2 % of web users prefer accessing your website from mobile, using mobile responsive themes and designs is commended. Lastly, focus on both, the On-Page and Off-Page SEO.
